ShinShinto Katana in Shirasaya
Signature: Mumei
Year Made: 1800s
Forging Pattern: Ko-Itame
Tempering Pattern: Suguha with vibrant activty in the hamon that is difficult to photograph.
Dimensions: Nagasa: 26", Nakago: 9 3/16", Mihaba: 1 1/4", Sakihaba: 15/16", Kasane: 1/4", Sori: 3/8"
Mountings: Shirasaya is taped and there is a 2 1/2" chip out of it at the koiguchi on the Ha side. The handle is solid and the habaki is part of it.
Overall Condition: The blade is in good condition except for what appears to be a very small rust line on the mune in the boshi. There are scratches and some toning. The nakago appears to have been cleaned at some point and it looks like it was shortened. The forging on this blade is excellent, the hada is tight, consistent, and the hamon has lots of micro activity that shows up in certain lighting. This sword looks much better in person than the photos show.
